  • Prepare and apply labels to medication containers with relevant prescription information
  • Maintain and manage pharmacy inventory by monitoring stock levels, receiving deliveries, restocking shelves, and ordering supplies as needed
  • Check expiration dates of medications regularly and remove expired or damaged stock from inventory
  • Provide excellent customer service by answering inquiries, assisting customers with non-prescription items, and addressing medication-related questions
  • Operate cash registers, process payments, and handle cash transactions accurately
  • Maintain accurate patient records by creating and updating patient files with relevant information
  • File insurance claims and handle paperwork related to prescriptions and billing
  • Answer telephone calls, emails, and faxes from patients, doctors' offices, clinics, and nursing homes professionally
  • Assist with compounding medications when needed under pharmacist supervision
  • Use and maintain pharmacy equipment, technology, and software systems for inventory management and prescription processing
  • Keep the pharmacy environment clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations and standards
  • Adhere to all pharmacy regulations, ethical standards, and maintain strict patient confidentiality
  • Assist in training new pharmacy staff and students as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Assistant college/diploma program (6-12 months) where required by state or provincial regulations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling medications and records
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to address patient needs and inquiries effectively
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software systems and basic computer applications including Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in fast-paced environments
  • Capability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions from pharmacists
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality requirements and ethical standards
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening where required
