Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' conditions by conducting physical exams and taking detailed health care histories
  • Record and monitor patients' medical histories, vital signs, symptoms, and changes in condition
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments while monitoring patients for side effects and reactions
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and healthcare teams
  • Perform diagnostic tests, analyze results, and communicate findings to treating physicians
  • Operate and monitor medical equipment during patient care and procedures
  • Perform wound care including cleaning, applying sterile dressings, and bandaging
  • Draw blood, collect urine samples, and gather other body fluids for laboratory testing
  • Educate patients and their families on illnesses, treatment plans, medications, and home care instructions
  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures
  • Maintain accurate, complete health care records and documentation in electronic health record systems
  • Supervise licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and home health aides
  • Coordinate care with specialists, case managers, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers
  • Respond to emergencies and changes in patient status with appropriate interventions
  • Manage patient intake including obtaining measurements, vital signs, and health histories

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or diploma from an accredited nursing program
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state in which you work
  • Successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Compassion and empathy when working with patients and families
  • High attention to detail and precision in administering treatments and medications
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift patients for extended periods
  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple patient care plans
  • Emotional stability and resilience to cope with human suffering and stressful situations
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with electronic health record software

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred over associate degree
  • One to two years of clinical or bedside nursing experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • IV certification for intravenous medication administration
  • Specialty certification in areas such as pediatrics, gerontology, oncology, or critical care
  • Experience in specific nursing specialties such as emergency, intensive care, labor and delivery, or surgical nursing
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) for advanced practice or leadership roles
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills for charge nurse or management positions
  • Ability to communicate in multiple languages to serve diverse patient populations
  • Experience with specific patient populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics, or neonatal care
  • Knowledge of telehealth platforms and remote patient monitoring systems
