Responsibilities

  • Advise and represent clients in criminal or civil proceedings and other legal matters
  • Communicate with clients, colleagues, judges, and others involved in legal cases
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of legal issues, laws, rulings, and regulations
  • Interpret laws and judicial decisions to determine applicability to specific client circumstances
  • Present facts and findings relevant to cases on behalf of clients
  • Prepare and file legal documents including lawsuits, appeals, contracts, wills, and deeds
  • Draft and review contracts, legal briefs, and other legal documents
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, trials, and negotiations
  • Present evidence and arguments in support of clients for settlements outside of court through plea bargaining or arbitration
  • Counsel clients about their legal rights, obligations, and options
  • Suggest courses of action to clients based on legal analysis and strategic considerations
  • Maintain client confidentiality and uphold ethical conduct in accordance with legal and professional standards
  • Stay informed about legal developments affecting practice through continuing legal education
  • Oversee the work of support staff including paralegals, legal assistants, and legal secretaries
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients to understand their legal needs and objectives

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to the state bar and license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
  • Successful completion of state bar examination
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate large amounts of information and determine relevant facts
  • Excellent legal research skills to find applicable laws and regulations for specific matters
  • Outstanding written communication skills for drafting precise legal documents
  • Exceptional verbal communication and speaking skills to clearly present and explain information
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and confidence with clients
  • Problem-solving abilities to separate emotions from clients' issues and objectively evaluate matters

  • Specialization or advanced certifications in particular fields of law
