Responsibilities

  • Analyze large volumes of financial data using data mining, statistical analysis, and machine learning to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies indicating fraudulent activity
  • Monitor transactions continuously across online and offline channels to detect suspicious activity and flag transactions that deviate from established patterns
  • Review and investigate fraud alerts from various platforms such as Verafin, BioCatch, and other fraud detection systems
  • Conduct thorough investigations of suspected fraud cases by gathering evidence, reviewing documentation, and interviewing involved parties
  • Analyze accounts and transaction patterns to determine existing fraud trends and identify new fraud schemes
  • Review customer accounts for prevention and detection of possible fraud situations including unusual activity, payment method changes, and high-risk transactions
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation on fraud incidents, investigations, and actions taken for management and regulatory bodies
  • Generate suspicious activity reports (SARs) and risk management reports following regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, customer service, engineering, and legal departments to address fraud issues
  • Communicate fraud alerts regarding ongoing fraudulent activity to other teams and departments
  • Develop and implement fraud prevention strategies, security measures, and anti-fraud controls
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance fraud detection effectiveness and reduce risk
  • Maintain and optimize fraud analysis models and detection systems to improve efficiency
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and populations requiring further review
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify system improvements and prevent future fraudulent activities

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in fraud detection, fraud analysis, financial analysis, or related field
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze large volumes of data to identify patterns and anomalies
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software including Microsoft Excel, SQL, and fraud detection platforms
  • Knowledge of fraud detection methodologies, financial crimes, and fraud investigation techniques
  • Understanding of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements
  • Exceptional attention to detail with ability to spot minor inconsistencies in massive amounts of data
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex findings clearly
  • Investigative skills and research capabilities using multiple systems and online tools
  • Knowledge of financial systems, banking products, and transaction processing
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory standards in the financial industry
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE)
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification
  • Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS) or Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI) certification
  • Master's degree in relevant field such as Finance, Criminal Justice, or Data Science
  • Programming knowledge in Python or R for custom analysis and automation
  • Experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistical modeling
  • Knowledge of data visualization software such as Tableau, Power BI, or IBM Cognos Analytics
  • Familiarity with Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations and FinCEN requirements
  • Experience with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) processes
