Responsibilities

  • Process customer transactions including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, check cashing, loan payments, and cash advances
  • Verify customer identity and account information before processing transactions to ensure security and accuracy
  • Answer customer questions about account balances, transaction history, service charges, and interest rates
  • Count and balance cash drawer at the start and end of each shift, ensuring accurate reconciliation of all transactions
  • Prepare specialized financial instruments such as money orders, cashier's checks, savings bonds, and traveler's checks
  • Open and close customer accounts, order bank cards and checks, and process address changes
  • Identify counterfeit currency and suspicious activity, filing appropriate reports in compliance with banking regulations
  • Educate customers on bank products, services, and emerging digital banking technology
  • Recommend appropriate banking products based on customer needs and refer customers to specialized personnel
  • Exchange foreign currency and handle safe deposit box services as needed
  • Record all transactions electronically and maintain accurate account records throughout the shift
  • Follow internal controls, operational procedures, and security protocols including robbery procedures and cash controls
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal banking regulations, including currency transaction reports and Regulation CC holds
  • Maintain adequate supplies at the teller station and ensure proper item capture procedures

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 1+ years of cash handling experience in banking, retail, or customer service environment
  • Strong mathematical skills with ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide accurately using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Excellent customer service skills with friendly, helpful, and patient demeanor
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling money and processing transactions
  • Effective communication skills to explain products, services, and account information clearly
  • Integrity and trustworthiness to handle confidential financial information
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including computers, calculators, and teller-specific technology
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds
